Hi i am awaiting ankle fusion, i am a bit p....d off as i was due to have it approx Oct, i had pre-warned waiting office that i was going to visit parents in Eire,in Sept, but prior to going i got letter for opp, during my 2wks in Eire, as i had already got the tickets and my parents were looking forward to my visit, i could not attend the opp date, i informed the surgeons secretary, and the waiting office they said they had no record of me informing them, i was fuming , i was told that i would be put on the cancellation waiting list, and the ordinary list (bottom of that). I am still waiting, i contact them by phone often, i am not sure where i stand, i was first put on the list in July, this feels like i have been waiting way longer than the 18 wk time i was originally told, and they are getting away with it, i am now off work with depression, i feel this is due to the pain in my ankle my job is so difficult at the moment, i work in the nhs with the mental health team and have done for 22yrs, so i am often face to face with depression, i have just come to terms with my own feelings, i think that waiting for this opp is another factor and having my daughter and 2 young grandsons staying with me whilst her divorce is going through . I will wait until after Xmas if i get no where i will contact pals, i can,t think of anything else to do, So sorry i feel like i am writing my autobiography, i just need to get it all off my chest as i have been feeling so weepy, hubby is great i don,t want to burden my daughter as she has enough to contend with. Thank you for reading and listining to me, i have been keeping up with you all, but its only now that i feel able to chat. Anne-m xxx p.s has anyone had ankle fusion? how did you do?

Hi Anne, I am in a similar position to you I think. I was due to have a hindfoot fusion in October after seeing the surgeon in July. But my operation is now 29th January ( I'm thankful now at least I have a date ) It has worked out well for me in a way because now I can get christmas out of the way and look forward to spending a little bit of time with my granddaughter who is being born next Thursday by caesarean. I do hope you hear very soon as I know how fustrating this can be. Best wishes Kelly

Dear Anne-m,
I am truly so very sorry to hear of all the aggravation you have been given over the date for this ankle operation. It is unbelieveablr that they should keep you waitig so long and have no record of you...
The only suggestion is that you kick up a fuss with your GP? and possibly your rheumy too?
It is depressing just being messed around and that's without all the pain and worry you;re experiencing.
No wonder you feel a little depressed, perhaps you can try some St John's Wort or ask for some CBT? It must be an anxious time for your daughter too.
Much love, Amanda

Amanda, I have spoken to Rheumy nurse and g.p they were very understanding, but did not offer any assistance, maybe i do not push hard enough for help,
I will do something after xmas if i do not her anything, my G.P has signed me off for 1mth, and told me to have a good rest! i am trying, i am not good at rest and relaxing. I will try St johns wort, is that tablet or liquid form? what is CBT?
Thank you so much Amanda. Anne-m xx

Dear Anne-m, St John's Wort is a herb good for mild depression, it won't really help for being extremely depressed etc; http://www.organic-herba...biq_r0Z4CFYIA4wodfURKpw
The liquid is probably better, purer and will get into the system quickly. Although the capsules are good too. I am absolutely terrible at resting and relaxing too! LOL Especially when instructed to rest by hubby or Drs! But do try and relax... CBT is cognitive behaviour therapy, it is excellent for depression, a form of counselling in a very practical manner. Love, Amanda

Hello Anne I believe it could be as long as 6-8 weeks non weight bearing. But I have been told to not return to work for about 12 weeks. That is the bit I'm not looking forward to. But in the end I'm sure it will all be worth it. Kelly

I will try the St Johns wort, as for the time off work, the way i feel at the moment the longer the better, i did love my job.......... my manager has mentioned redeployment, it may be something i will look into on rtn to wk i am not to sure what it entails. Anne, sorry you are having to wait so long. I think chronic pain does drag you down, especially if you can see no end to it. You need a date fro your op, so you can focus on that. It does sound as though you have a lot on your plate. I hope you hear something soon.

Hi Anne-Marie, Sorry I can`t help re the ankle surgery, but just wanted to say how sorry I am that you are having to wait so long. It is so easy for secretaries just to say they have no record of your request. I do hope you can have a lovely Christmas with your family, and get some positive news re a date once Christmas is over. Take care, Kathleen x

Kelly Hi Anne, I don't want to be a pesimist but had an ankle fusion last February and yes there was six weeks non weight bearing but then the traoubles started. I then had a cast on because the surgeon felt the newer airboot wasn't suitable in my case. It still took a further four months before I was able to walk without pain. All the other little bones in my foot objected as they had to move more and it wasn't until I found the right shoes to support them all that I was able to really walk. It was a very straight forward op and I had no complaints about that. I wish you success but perhaps waiting until after Christmas has done you a favour. 12 weeks to restart work still seems a little ambitious. Clive

Hi hon - sorry you are having such a painful time - try to make the most of your time at home. It's scandalous that you are having to wait so long. These so called professionals just don't seem to "get" how much the pain affects us.
Do hope that despite all the problems, you manage to have a lovely Christmas with your family. Much love Jeanxxxxx

Thank you Jean, Xmas day it will just be hubby and myself, and then on boxing day we will have the gang for lunch, hubby's working until 2pm so it will be a late one. Here's hoping that you and your family have a wonderful, relaxing Xmas also. Anne-m xxx
